Evaluation of airborne and satellite electro-optical sensors performances by use of high-altitude clouds occurrence climatology

چکیده
Remote sensing, surveillance applications or telecommunications require optronic sensors, onboard satellite or airborne platform. Performances limitation of these sensors may be caused by cloud presence in the field of view. To take into account cloud presence, a Monte Carlo method is used. Geometrical and optical clouds properties necessary to build the model are obtained from CALIOP measurements that enable one to deal with the optically thinnest clouds. Different viewing geometries are presented. They correspond to surveillance missions by an airborne sensor with close-to-thehorizon viewing and to optical link between an aircraft and a satellite. Results obtained are compared to a previous study and improvements reached with our new method are discussed.

Critical Evaluation of the ISCCP Simulator Using Ground-Based Remote Sensing Data
Given the known shortcomings in representing clouds in global climate models (GCMs), comparisons with observations are critical. The International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) diagnostic products provide global descriptions of cloud-top pressure and column optical depth that extend over multiple decades. Given the characteristics of the ISCCP product, the model output must be con...
متن کاملA Global Climatology of Single-Layer and Overlapped Clouds and their Optical Properties Developed Using a New Algorithm Applied to Terra/MODIS Data
To date, weather satellites are the only tool to measure cloud and climate variables on a global scale, an objective addressed by the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) (Rossow and Schiffer 1991; Rossow and Schiffer 1999). However, there is a dearth of information concerning the global climatology of cloud vertical structure and cirrus cloud properties. This is because th...

Remote sensing using small spacecraft arising from multi-objective economic activity problems is getting more and more developed. These satellites require very accurate pointing to specific locations of interest, with high reliability and small latency. The space borne imaging systems always attempted to achieve the highest ground resolution possible with the available technology at the given t...
متن کاملSpace Environment and Evaluation of Typical High Altitude Satellite
The space environment consists mainly of high-energy charged particles, such as protons, electrons and heavy ions. They are originating from several sources including galactic cosmic radiation, solar flares and van Allen belts. High energy electromagnetic radiation and neutrons have also been measured on spacecraft. Although shielding can reduce the effect of space radiation it cannot be elimin...
متن کاملA Near-Global Climatology of Single-Layer and Overlapped Clouds and Their Optical Properties Retrieved from Terra/MODIS Data Using a New Algorithm
Cloud overlapping has been a major issue in climate studies owing to a lack of reliable information available over both oceans and land. This study presents the first near-global retrieval and analysis of single-layer and overlapped cloud vertical structures and their optical properties retrieved by applying a new method to the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data. Taking ...
